Dance

Hip Hop Dance:

has fast become one of the most popular form of dancing enjoyed by people around the world. While Hip Hop dances and Hip Hop dancing were once considered forms of dancing suitable only to Blacks,African Americans, and Latinos back in the 1970’s – today Hip-Hop Dance is a form of art and dancing enjoyed by a wide range of people.
What is Hip Hop Dance?
Hip hop dance usually is affiliated with  choreographed dance styles most often danced to hip hop music. There is a wide range of hip hop dance styles mainly: breaking, locking, and popping all of which were developed in the 70s by African Americans and partially by Latinos. One of the most unique things about hip hop dance  and what separates it from most other forms of dancing is that it is most often in freestyle form, meaning it is improvized on the spot.
Hip Hop dance also includes a heavy element of high pressure competition. This Hip Hop dance competition is referred to as battles or freestyle competitions. In the streets or among friends, casual freestyle sessions are performed in a cipher, which is the same type of cipher that develops during freestyle rap battles.
Hip hop dance to some is a form of entertainment or a hobby. Other however view hip hop dance as a lifestyle and a way to be active in physical fitness, just like a sport or even as a profession as a professional dancer through both competitions and back up dancers in music videos, concerts and venues.
There are many different types of hip hop dances, some of which are Breakdancing, breaking, b-boying, popping, locking just to name a few.

Why learn Hip Hop Dance?
If you’re wondering why Hip Hop dance has become so popular over the past decade, it’s most likely the same reason why Hip Hop and Rap itself has become popular. This form of art is all about self expression and creativity – which is a stark difference from other types of dance such as Salsa and Chacha or classic ballroom dancing where rules are more set in stone and people are expected to follow a close set of rules like robots.
What hip hop dance does so well is that it puts the people and their style, personality, and creativity at the forefront of the activity itself. You can become a Hip Hop dancer and do well without following any dress rules, dancing rules, or orthodox methods. In fact, the more different you are, the more succesful you will be at hip hop dancing.
If you’re nervous or worried about not having a good background in Hip Hop, then need not worry as hip hop dancing has evolved to a state where people of many different background learn and dance it within their own preferences. For example the dancing in Britney Spears videos are sometimes considered Hip Hop dances, while the really old school type of breakdancing featured in the movie You Got Served! is also another form of hip hop dance.
As you can hopefully begin to see, hip hop dance is a form of dance that has much more depth that one would have thought. I will try to share with everyone the different hip hop dance styles, hip hop dance moves, the different hip hop dance competitions as well as share the best hip hop dance videos and highlights.
